About to buy a 5/4 hooded suit. For various reasons have it narrowed down
to the Oneil pyrotech or the xcell dryloc. Which one should I buy? And why?
As I understand it, the pyro May be more flexible but not as warm. Though
I’ve heard it may be warm enough. For East coast winter surf (low of 37 degrees F).
Thanks in advance e-surf world.

I used to be a big fan of Xcel but haven't had one of their suits in many years for no real reason.

I am liking my Ripcurl F bomb 5/4 so far.

I'm not a fan of the Xcel drylocs. I've had 2 and maybe they've improved but since I last bought one 3 years ago. They were warm but super restrictive. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of warmth for mobility. Granted I'm in So Cal and we're talking about 4/3 suits in the winter.

Love Xcel stuff but just not the drylocs.

This will be my 2nd winter with my 5/4 drylock. I'm sure I'll laughed at for having a hooded 5/4 but I really don't care. I've always seemed to be cold, even in 4/3's, so last winter I moved up to the 5/4, and I couldn't be happier. It's thick, shockingly so, but super flexible. I don't have any stretching limitations, flexibility feels like a 4/3. The fit is perfect for me, I have a MT and I'm 6'1, 180. Absolutely warm for over 3 hours. I wore it for the first time this winter a couple weeks ago in cold morning offshores and I was hot. Beats being cold. With the hood and neck entry I don't get the water flush into the suit. Definitely recommend.

I've owned several of both over the years. And while they are super spendy, the O'Neill hooded 5 or 6 mils are the best. I have a new Psycho 5.5/4 that was literally just delivered this morning and i can't wait to try it out, apparently they've gotten even more flexible this go round

Got the billabong furnace after years of xcels, like it so far. Warmer and slightly more restrictive than the xcels. I always found the xcels to be not quite warn enough for the real cold days(NJ).

I have a 4/3 XCEL comp. Super flexible and warm. Stoked on it.

@rice, it’s been a few decades since I’ve lived there. Now
Am in the land of 38 degree water in winter!

O'Neill psychotech 5.5/4 seems to be the go-to around here.
