I've been in January. There was a lot of swell, but also a lot of wind. Surfed once in 7 days. Did some nice island-hopping trips though.

I was thinking of checking out Baler or heading straight to Siargao.

if you're coming, keep your options open for where to go.

Siargao will have no shortage of surf, but it's our winter season which means onshores most of the time for Cloud 9 area breaks.

If you longboard, there are some breaks on the South side that take the northern wind, glassy conditions but you lose a lot of size as the swell has to wrap around the bottom of the island.

There are a couple little places on Northern Mindanao that get good surf, a little research will show you where and not many people and yes, it is safe to go there.

Baler can have better wind conditions, but its beach break. One really good reef set up there though, worth checking if the swell is hitting up there.

Also, on Luzon you wanna check the forecast for La Union area. That's another good area if there is going to be swell. Lots of point/reef setups.

depends on where you want to go.
West coast (china sea side) Dec- March generally.
Similar to Panhandle in the USA surf consistency wise, but I'd say a bit or consistent with much better surf when its on.
East coast (pacific) Sept-Nov. depending on where you go, its possible to surf everyday if you are so motivated.
Storms can spin up anytime of year, but the summer/early fall months are usually the most active.
