Looking for a fun surf trip in 2019. Always wanted to surf Indo, but not interested in the super hollow, double-overhead surf that most people go there for. I'd like to go for two weeks, anytime of the year. I'm looking to surf FUN semi-uncrowded waves(coming from San Diego, I consider anything less than 30 people "uncrowded") in the chest/slightly overhead range. Could be a boat trip, or not. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

banyaks worth a look; would need to be by boat. less crowds up there. if it's pumping could be gnarly but there are some safety spots that are shadowed.

Rote
Lombok
Bali from Kuta going west.
West Java (cimaja area)
Krui (some waves)
Mentawai playgrounds area (but crowded)
Telos
Simeulue

Anywhere there is surf camps/resort/charter boats can get crowded or be empty.

I want to go to Rote.

We all know what we hate.

We just don't know what we want.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Looks like there's plenty of options.

I will be in mentawai this off season on my cruising boat.
Off season is mellow and you wont have any issues with heavy surf.
This is my 12 or 13 year here I cant remember anymore.
I am solo so i look for company now and then.
I ask for contribution to the trip . Its no back packer type deal. But its reasonable and it just goes towards the food and care of my 37 foot sailing yacht. I am basicly a non profit .
Sailing is not often but possible.
In fact anyone interested feel free to pm me or whatever.
I will be in mentawai feb till april then banyacks in may. Till the season ends.
1 or 2 people and myself.
I have met a lot of great people doing this the past 4 years.
Keep this in mind if you want mellow off seasin or full on season surf on a off the path type experience.
