So my family is taking a cruise in New Zeland. They mentioned going to Fiji for few days. Of course my eyes went wide and i thought “Tavarua.” Thing is none of them surf but me.
Sounds like they wanna stay in the main island. Hows the surf there? Or should i really push the idea of going to Tavarua?
Hotels/resorts wise? They wanna go somewhere nice and, since they don’t surf, what else is there to do for them? To keep them busy while i go surf😜😂

Thanks...

So my wife and I went to Nadi last august and then we stay on Nananu-i-ra on the north side of the island.

So as far as the mainland, there is not much to do. You can drive around Nadi if you want but I wasn't too impressed and there didn't look like much to see.

We drove 50% of the island and it was pretty rural. Mostly dry and dusty without much scenery. There is a great company I used for a surf trip. Fiji surf Co. They picked me up from my hotel in Nadi, drove me to a dock and then we took a boat and surfed cloud break and Wilkos. This is probably your best bet. Trip wasn't bad at all.

boards were ok, not great but fair. Depends on how hard it is to bring your board.

if you wanna stay in Tavarua, or Namotu, do you HAVE to book through Waterways travel?

There are quite a few resorts around Tavarua/namotu that offer boats to all the breaks. Namotu/Tavarua probably have better boards to borrow than the other resorts.

Look up "Malolo island resorts" and take your pick, all a short ferry ride or flight from the main island. Plenty of water activities, the snorkeling/diving is pretty unbelievable.

Skip the main island, unless you like indian street food.
