Having some issues keeping the Large Naish wing from breaching in larger surf (above waist high). Wondering if it's operator error or too much wing?

Just need to adjust your stance, get forward, and would help if you slid the mast back in the box.

Naish Large you say, that's what I'm using. Drops on overhead waves are hard. Move the mast back in half inch increments til you find a new sweet spot for big waves. The faster you're going, the further forward you have to stand.

Moving the mast back was a major breakthrough in catching overhead waves for me.

Edit: Here is evidence it can be done. The 2nd half of my wave in the other day. Chest-head highish depending on the section. I took off by the guy in the video but my brother didn't hit record until halfway through.

I'll try moving in back, do you guys ever adjust the rear wing for lift? I tried it, didn't feel much difference.

Nope, never touched that back wing. Just leave it zero'd out at the yellow mark.

Really focused on getting my front foot forward, lots of success.

A few good rides this morning. I feel like I'm riding on instinct, just trying to stay aloft and travel.

Corey Colapinto paddled out as I was wrapping it up on shore. He was riding three or four waves at a time and pumping over breaking whitewater.

You can shim under the front mount bolts too. Use a plastic paint scraper or a squigee with holes in it.

Super micro barely breaking today.

Used the reverse advice and moved my mast forward in the box, lotsa lift! Barely had to paddle once the waves picked me up.

Now if i can figure out the pumping to get me back to the take off spot.

Hey Grendel

Where was your back foot in relation to the mast?

right on top I think, with it all the way in the back my foot is in front of the mast.

Where are you foiling in South OC?

Doheney?

A threat response is a potent trigger for motivated reasoning.

"People who are right a lot listen a lot, and they change their mind a lot. . . . . They wake up and reanalyze things and change their mind. If you don't change your mind frequently, you're going to be wrong a lot."

Dogpatch at San O, this morning was absolutely perfect for the foil! 2ft, slow crumbly takeoff followed by a long wall and reform on the inside.

I haven't tried Doheny yet, dogpatch is just so wide open and quite a bit better (breaks further out). Doheny is 5 minutes from my house though.

Saw a guy paddle out yesterday at Huntington State Beach on the high tide, I thought it was breaking a little too hard but he was getting a few away from everyone else.

Is it worth it to get a medium wing for bigger surf?

I paddled out Monday as the swell was rising, caught a couple good rides right off the bat on the waist high sets. The swell jumped with the tide and I felt like I should be able to handle more speed with the taller mast, but I felt out of control on takeoff.

i have taken mine out there. i have stayed south of the hammer due to the crowd north of it. I am only a couple of months into foiling but i have seen a few out at the outer reef there, they get some nice rides there but will pull out before hitting the lineup.

I ended up down there Wednesday afternoon when the wind blew everything apart, didn't have the foil in the car and was kicking myself as I surfed knee high peelers along the sandbar.

I also saw really good foil waves breaking down the road...

Anyone want to dawn patrol high tide 1st tomorrow? I guess I could drive north. But seems like a hassle.
