Heading to the Mentawai Islands on Oct 31 for 11 days on the Samudra Biru. Any suggestions on reef booties (regular or split toe, brand, etc)? It is OK to wear them here, right?

Putting it simply, there could be times where having booties would be nice to have over there. If you are comfortable using them I'd bring a pair. I havent seen a lot of guys using them, but have seen a couple of guys who wished they had been wearing them.

you save up your money, get time off work and the family - go on a magical indo boat trip and you score the wave of your life under beautiful sumatran skies and someone captures it on a camera and ...

....the picture will be forever ruined by you wearing booties - for the rest of your life you will look at that magical photo and be forever bummed that you wore booties to jump off a boat

Guy on podcast said to find reef socks. Wear them if you have to walk over reef like at gland. Then take them off and put them in your pocket when surfing.

reef booties are strictly for those who practice that other sport, no, not surfing exactly.

falling, i think they call it. especially the hard core heavy duty fallers, the ones who practice their sport with repeated success....

... IN THE IMPACT ZONE!!!

Surfing from a boat, you probably won't need them, but they're a great backup to have, should you get a decent cut on your foot.

95% in Indo I surf barefoot. Some reefs require them at low tide in order to get in and out.

Walking out at low tide Uluwatu sucked. Reef socks that you can stuff in your pocket and not blow said photo, now thats a novel idea.

Forget the reef booties

You're spending 10 days on a small boat with a bunch of dudes.

Pack a couple of porno mags and some Jergens instead. monkey

This exactly....I just got back a couple days ago and saw that rig cruising to different spots during my trip. I brought a pair but never got cut so they stayed packed the entire trip. Returned them to surf shop yesterday

Just toughen up your feet before the trip!
