When I went to Tavarua it was not like this! Would have liked to watch from the safety of the boat!

Surfed it. Never needed more than 610. Insanely good wave. Super fun.

I've never surfed it, but a good friend of mine said he almost died there and it was 'only' 6ft. Said it was the most power he'd ever felt coupled with the longest hold-downs of his life. This was coming from an Aussie who's an Indo veteran...

I'm about to hop in a cab to go surf Taapuna on Tahiti. Fortunately the swell isn't that big here but still bringing my 6'4" and 6'10".

Surfed it at 8'-10', TOH and it was scary. The best waves don't look even close to makeable. A total mindfvck. Bronze whalers cruising the lineup. Had it with me and my friend from the Big Island, and Shane Dorian, who was driving our boat. Just us three, first light, little bit onshore and then it just turned on. Broke my board three hours in. Humbling. I stuck to the smaller waves and raced it, survival style. I'm pretty experienced in bigger surf, but it was just heavy. Can't even fathom it like that. It would be scary to be on the boat.

Had one of the best surf sessions of my life later that evening at Restaurants, a few feet overhead and like a machine. Craig Naughton and his kid were out with us. Most perfect waves I have ever surfed.

That's nuts! Big sharks, big waves, out in the middle of the ocean...Too much for me! I'd like to think I'd take a stab at Restaurants, but that looks super fast and super heavy too! Respect to those who charge!

Dunno why this is in black and white, but...HEAVY!

Ramon Navarro in full on beast mode...

What's the end section like at this size? Does it just drain and closeout? Seems he coulda kept going on that one... roflmao

I was thinking the same thing seeing him pull out. The wave looks like it was still just spinning away. Maybe the only section where you can get out?

I wonder how much more water there is on the inside when it's this big. If its 4x bigger on the inside and there's only a few more feet of water over the shallow reef I'd say fug it.
