i've always enjoyed not strapping in on those short rides that link chairlifts together so i can see this being an absolute blast + a challenge

Think it works best in pristine powder, not really suited for resort riding. Wouldn't want to hit tracked up runs or hardpack without bindings.

yeah even those powder days where the old snow layer has an inconsistent depth would probably make this way too difficult

Yeah dust on crust would be bad news. As would any kind of variable conditions.

There is no winter. Snowboarding in Cali is a dream.

i figure it's gotta be better than northeast, but trying to keep my expectations pretty low

Anyone else going to be up there early next week?

going to Mammoth tomorrow afternoon. Think the storm they got early this week got things back to decent conditions. Another storm coming in Sunday night into Monday. "chance of snow". but temps are going to go down into the 20's.

Headed up next weekend, week after a holiday weekend is always good for the crowds. One thing to keep in mind about Mammoth is that their grooming crew is second to none. While you might not get any off piste glory runs it's still plenty of fun in the worst of years.

at the end of a favorite run with a few hundred yards of headhigh manzanita bushes to crash down through.

here's hoping for a big finish to this winter...cover this shit up!

A friend said they got about 1" of new fresh from the past storm at Sugarbowl. He said it was actually pretty good because high winds pushed it around into deeper drifts in the trees. When you get stocked on 1" of fresh...

when i moved to s.crz i started out riding at kirkwood, but became more of a sugarbowl fan over the seasons. this was back when jerome/judah ridge was hike up only.

I absolutely loved Sugarbowl back in the day. Late 80's/early 90's. It was like a time warp.
