I quite like the black and white ones, as well as the underwater ones. Something different for a change. But theyre all awesome still.

Quoted from the "you surf pipe" thread for the epic visualization. Imagery isn't always in the form of photos or video...

There were big days, and then there were days so mind bogglingly massive they defied comprehension, days that entered onto some surreal and terrifying meta plane. On such days, there always seemed to be a strange and ominous silence out there, everything moving in slow motion with such massive volumes of water moving it staggered credulity. And to watch people turn around and paddle for these things as if they really wanted them has always left me in awe.

No leashes then. The greatest feeling of all was coming up the beach to retrieve your lost board, 300 hundred people watching, many of them pretty bikini clad girls with flowers in their hair, and just 7 or so of us out in the line up.

I thought it was crowded enough then, but during a recent conversation with Lopez out in a Bali line up, even he said he was forced to give it up years ago as 3 Brazilian spongers would invariably drop in on the end, clamping the door shut with him inside on more waves then not. If this happens to him, what hope is there?

I did go back once years later during high season and it really did look like Sponge's photo, but what you can't see in his image is that a huge percentage of that crowd have immediately recognizable faces or are at the very least, very familiar looking, everyone of them with a raging sense of entitlement.

Greenough's cam was much more unwieldy than a GoPro. As far as I know, he was the first.
