i think a hooded 4/3 is good enough for most of the time. i think it's better to have the hood and not need it than visa versa.

4/3 has always been enough for me. A separate .5 mm lid for $15 helps tremendously.

Don't get a hooded wetsuit.

And unless you're like me & have the big hair, I'm not sure whether you really need a hood. But if you really want one, get this:

Personally do not like hooded suits as it's nice to have the option not to wear. I used to use 4/3 and 3 mil booties exclusively. But now that suits are so good and flexible, you have little to loose by going thicker and warmer.

I'd suggest a matuse 5/4, light, warm, and flexible. Have a pair of 3m and 5m booties and a decent hood and you're good to go. Wearing 5m booties was a huge comeup for me, amazing how much warmth you conserve by not having cold feet.

Some of this comes down to how much you tollerate cold as a person but I found that bumpin things up to 5 mil meant comforatable 2hr+ sessions rather than cold 2hr sessions. Worth the extra rubber to me.

I have a 5/4/3 I wear every now and then. Most times I am too hot in it.
The only time I really need it is cold winter dawn patrols.
The thicker booties suggestion is money .
with a 4/3 booties and a hood your good for most everything.

I like the gloves. They are needed in the aquatic deeds of perversion that he partakes in.

I'm going to tell you the opposite of what most people are saying

Get the hooded 5/4/3 for the winter so you don't have to wear booties. The extra warmth keeps your feet alive

Just a normal 4/3 will be good pretty much until the beginning of December though unless you're doing all DP

As of today I would say a 5/4 hoodie with a minimum of 3 mil booties.

plus gloves.

It is freakin' butt ass cold up here right now.

I'm into 5/3 or 4/3 hoodie most of of the year and no booties thing. Late summer to fall 4/3 or 3/2 no hood no booties. dP hoodie most likely. And I'm a skinny bitch. The water is not the problem sometimes, it's the air. Like today.

A good high end 3mm would be plenty for those temps. A 5/4 is for 40 and below.
