No vinyl, all good-ol' Amurkin' steel, and solid Maroon. V8 engine (thus exhausting my knowledge of engines). The last of its kind, and it was a beauty. A bit later on I almost matched it with a Cordoba, but it wasn't the same except, like the Monte Carlo, it was humongous.

Speaking of our old love of huge cars, I cannot look at the modern iterations of what are called Lincolns and Cadillacs without feeling a good measure of sadness.

(Well, that's a picture of two '76 Monte Carlos. Mine is the maroon one. If you could see it, anyway)

anyone who's a fan of enduro racing gets to see and appreciate many many fine monte carlos. they are l'auto de prefere amongst the more victorious of the rednecks where i am from.

The motor had Arias 10:1 forged pistons, Isky cam w/dual springs, Edelbrock intake with a Holley 390cfm 4-BL, Mallory Uni-lite ignition, some head work, Dial-in-cam gear, Kleber rally tires, Capri rally wheels and Mullhulond front springs . Used to smoke a lot of Poly wogs going to Cal Poly back in the day. A total sleeper.

Mine didn't have a rack, I had the clamp on the rain gutter racks. Kept the rear seat folded down and had some bookshelf speakers in the back, it rocked and a great place to sleep while touring spots in So Cal. Nice little stabbin cabin.

I miss that car. I drove it for 8 years and sold it when I got married.

86' toyota pickup with a camper shell and carpet kit so I could sleep anywhere needed. wouldn't be surprised if it's still on the road somewhere.

Mine was less fancy than this. I learned to drive it out on Edison Road past Pt. Hueneme when I was 13. It was a really wide road and no traffic back then. I would drive it around Strand only, until I got my license. I then owned some other classics, like a Ford Pinto wagon, a Levi's edition Gremlin, a 72 Econoline van, a 62 Chevy Nova with plywood covering the holes in the floor, and a $70.00 Ford truck from the Oxnard City Parks and Rec Dept. auction that made it to Tierra del Fuego and back.

Was that a V8 swap or a buildup of the original motor?

My coworker has the identical truck. He still drives it a couple days a week depending on what he needs to do
