Any of you guys ever read that real life account of a British naval captain surfing his frigate at cloud break in 1807? Not even joking

I have a true First Edition, First Printing of Steinbeck's East of Eden in great shape. There is a spelling mistake on page 281 ("bite" should have been "bight") which wasn't caught until the first copies came off the press.

Love Steinbeck. Cannery row, tortills flat. The grapes of wrath is in my top 3 I’ve ever read. Character development is outstanding.

My other two (out of my top 3) are Dostoevsky. Brothers karamazov and crime and punishment. I re-read them from time to time. They’re that good

Although I do it all the time......don't judge a book by it's cover.

They're technical enough to keep a real scientist engaged but also dumbed down enough for the upper-average reader to gain a good understanding of the subject.

If you want to see some masterful writing on the topics of evolution, evo-devo, and molecular biology.....read Neil Shubin and (especially) Sean B. Carroll.

I'm not sure how they strike that balance between good scientific writing and good storytelling that's engaging for the average reader, but it's genius.
