They are infrequent, but when they hit, man.

I'm currently in one.

I can't stand up straight, my whole left side is shorter than my right. I look like effing Quasimodo. Kind of scary. Transitioning from sitting to standing and vice versa is hell. I had to sit down and rest walking the 30 yards from my department building to my car. Laying flat on my back is still painful. :x :x :x

My experience is that surfing is one of the worst things for my back (partially herniated L1L2 and also the L5S1). Took a year and only bodyboarded - that helped a lot, long term.

The 400 lb chick who works in my office was out four days this week because
of her bad back.

It wasn't because you shamed her was it?

Galleon,
Ask your Dr about getting a TENS unit. It's done wonders for my bad back.
Stretch your hamstrings whenever possible

I never go stingy on my shaming.

Healthy lifestyle is making me lose all my drinking/recovery days weight, now I carry around a few extra "getting older" pounds that I recently started working on getting rid of. People have commented that I "look good again". Satisfying part of recovery smile

Post the problem in SurfDoc forum, they have some pretty good feedback. G'luck. Glad to read you still have a handle booze avoidance, seriously impressed.

after reading that book and getting my head straight i had 2 years of no back problems at all, no stretching or anything, so many back problems are in the mind,

i'm fvcked right now and can hardly walk/surf but i've got a load of sht eating me up in my head that i can't get rid of/deal with, frustrating knowing there's nothing wrong with my back apart from my brain messing with me cussing

so many back problems are in the mind,

That was NOT the case when I was pregnant. The pain had nothing to do with a head trip. Or PMS. Nope.

did i say all or many? that book has helped many of my friends too, mainly guys in the fire/emergency services who deal with unpleasant hard to let go of situations, all seem to manifest in back spasms.

i would have thought backache was the least of your worries when you're about to have your undercarriage destroyed by a small human barging through it.
