for those in the know, any opinions about either of these boards?

i say skate, because that's what i ordered mine to do
buzzsaw is a good wave board
skate has lower/flatter rocker than saw
deep single instead of deep double
saw isn't very drivey in weak waves

Think you might have that flipped joe. Stretch has been listing rocker values:

Interesting, I had an older rat skate version and I would have said the opposite. My buzzsaw has a little more low end range and a little less high end range. My rat skate was a little undersized for me though. Looks like the current skate is a bit different than the rat skate though. Maybe that improved it's performance in lesser conditions.

sorry for the highjack but we're the same size and im looking at getting one.

2x4 is 5'10" x 18.75" x 2.35" dedicated quad

bought off CL as the stepup from my buzzsaw. more tail rocker, more pulled in tail, more foiled tail and mellower concaves when compared to the buzzsaw. i ride it in OH+ waves and have been very pleased... hassle free performance and tons of drive

i wear a 4/3 suit most of the time and paddle power is the most important characteristic where i surf, but were I in warmer climates or surfing more organized waves I would definitely want to order thinner than 2.35

both boards have surprising range and i think it really comes down to your preference btw the generally stubby / fat tail / more aggressive concaves of the buzzsaw + going towards the more predicable performance side with the 2x4

i can blather all day but the folks at stretch are the ones to call... let them know what you like and the waves you surf and they will hook you up

All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine...

Yeah im looking for something that'll handle mush and flat sections
Just got this. Can someone decipher it for me. Didnt really understand it.

" The skate would be ridden longer but the rocker value is actually a bad measurement it measures the curve of the rail out of the centerline and the skate actually has a lower rocker on the center The Buzzsaw is a better convertible than the skate"

If the saw is wider all around then according to this it should have a higher rocker value, not a lower one.

i don't know what their "rocker value" is
i did a scan of the latest version of the skate and the nose rocker was around 4 and tail rocker around 2 on a 6'0
i measured the rocker on my 6'1 saw and got 4 nose 2.5 tail

gonna head by the shop in a bit
i'll clear it up and let you know

i went by at lunch and talked to dave

he's adding the nose and tail rocker values that are printed on the shape3d pdfs that are taped to each shaped blank. the default setting in shape3d rocks the board forward, so the rocker values it prints aren't really meaning full. aku has the rocker center point perpendicular to the horizon, so it's a more meaningful and translatable value.

shape3d offers the option of setting the rocker the same way that aku does, and then you could get a better number.

forgot to bring dave a 12 pack, which was a major faux pas bawling

My biz saw has been working in small stuff the extra foam in the front gets sketchy when it gets bigger. Could be my fault from dims I ordered.

I used them but felt under-finned. I haven't been able to completely get along with my buzzsaw and it's wide tail though so that might say more about me than the fins.
