Iím looking for some fin advice. Iíve been surfing my 6í Shadow with the twin plus kicker for the last three days and I canít help but wonder what it would be like with a thruster set. Iím going to give these twins more time, but I miss the predictability of a thruster and at times the twin sides feel really big.

I donít have much to spend so I want to get good all-around fins and trying not to be board specific.

The boards has FCS plugs. I weight 175#.

Here are my best uneducated selections:

- UL5
- PG5
- Simon Anderson M

Any recommendations? Pro and cons?

something like m7/pc7/ul7 fronts and a smaller trailer may be the ticket. I'd hit up a demo center and get a few sets of big fronts and small rears. I think that board will go best that way given it's set-up for a twin+trailer. then again you never know. you can also always ask sean mattison since he's tried many different set-ups. or..... you can get a hornet

There's fin demo centers? Where? I'm in the SD area.

the UL5 has an inside foil , is lighter , more flex from the base to tip ( than pg ) and the most expensive .

PG5 ( new ones have snap back tech ) stiff base and nice tip flex , bit heavy , single foil , 10-20 bux cheaper , strongest fin set .

SA med , inside foil , light ,and one of the stiffest PC fins ( foiled thicker

for the shadow and your size i think the SA med are the best match .

Thanks fellas.

After looking at the FCS website I still can't figure out where to demo these fins, but I'll call around this week.

FCS could do a better job relating the characteristics of the fins on their site. If all the fins are 3 star are higher in drive, hold, and pivot, how are we supposed to tell the difference?

As I said previously, try a smaller twin set first, with the
GS trailer you picked up. The Mattison twins are very large.
I love 'em, but I weigh a lot more than you do. A friend
of mine prefers the MR-TFX set in his and he's probably
around your weight or a bit less. My 5.1" Aurora twins
with GS trailer have always been great in the Shadow.
If you must go thruster on that board, I agree that a larger
side fin and slightly smaller trailer would be best.

They look like they'll only work on cloudy days (-;

I hear you and I think that's good advice. I've never surfed a board before (and take this with a grain of salt because I'm a shitty surfer) and thought 'damn these fins feel big'. Maybe it's just different and I'm not used to it. Iíll go with the GS trailer+Mattison twins first and see how that goes, although I'm having a hard time finding one in North County. I checked Surf Ride and Hansen, can you recommend a shop that would have that GS trailer? I hate to pay shipping on a $12 fin.

Are those MRs quite a bit smaller than the Mattison twins? Sh$t, I should have bought those from you last week for $50.

I am liking the board though. It catches waves with ease, gets instant speed, and is quite responsive. I think once I get the fins dialed in I'll be stoked.

If you are a below average surfer ? Then smaller fins are your friend.

I'm certainly not a ripper and I would say I'm just an average surfer if I compare myself to the lineups in the SD area that I've seen so far.

I'm going to get some smaller MR TFX fins and see how the board goes. If that doesn't work I'll try a smaller thruster setup with a trailer.

Missed the question about where to get a GS trailer.
Think someone had one posted in the classifieds. Also,
last time I was there, Bashams in San Clemente had boxes
of FCS fins you could buy for $10/each.
