Looks fun, watching the video, it rides a lot like a fish. Love to try one! Wonder what size would be good for me (age 55, 175 lbs., not a great paddler anymore, need easy into waves).

Thanks for posting that. I love short eggs. Funny that looks like trestles and Takayama is based in O-side right? That board came from Ricky Carrolls shop in Florida. The R&D lam gives it away.

Doghouse, if ya don't want something that rides like a canoe, then get it relatively short, like 6'6. These things paddle VERY well.

Had a couple of surfs on a Takayama 6'8" scorpion in the last few days.
First surf was in 4-6' clean, point waves with a quad set (DVS keel quads).
Handled the drops ok but the wide nose was a bit of a hinderance as the offshore blowing up the face was like having a firehose sprayed in your face.
Wrong board for that day but all I had with me so "run what ya brung".
Today was only knee to chest high point waves again.
Up to 20 plus longboarders out there but I still managed to sneak a stack of waves from in amongst them.
Board glides in easily and early and I wouldn't see a need for a longboard when one has a Scorpion in this size.
Cool thing is moving forward on the board and trimming and then only a short step back on the tail to head up into the lip or into a cutback.
Still easy to pump the board along a face for speed when its a midlength.
Rode it with Indo controller fins (FCS compatible version of Futures controllers) which suited the board well.
Next I'll try it with some bonzer sides and a Takayama 7" carbon cetre fin.

I find it works best as a regular tri. I've got FCS M5's that mine came with and this PC5 third fin that fits in the finbox. Keeps it loose but retains the pivot. Liked it least with a big fin in the box.

Kind of an odd board to get used to with the wide nose and narrow very pinny tail but has replaced my longboard for summer waves.

Just so happens I've got the M5 single base fin you're talking about so I'll give that a run.
Do you find it best with the M5 pushed right to the back of the box?
Also going to run it as a quad again with H2 fronts and Indo controller rears first.
I like all the fin possibilities on this board.

I think I've got the M5 in the middle of the box or toward the front as I use the board in smaller waves exclusively. Would push it back for better surf.

I'm more of a find the fin setup that works and never change it person but there are infinite combinations. Was disappointed with the 8" single Takayama fin by itself or with sidebites but the quad setup was sorta fun but a bit too loose for me. Liked it on weak high tide sorta waves.

The Scorpion with the DVS quads in it is the blue board further end of shot.

The Indo controllers have a lot of area so plenty of hold for a quad set...especially as the Scorpion is a railcentric quad placement.

i got this scorpion a couple months ago. handshaped by DT before he passed away...

I've been running it with the H3 large quad setup or the Takayama Halo fins... Never tried the single fin or the 2+1...

This board is F-U-N.

Love the orange tint.
What length?
Over here it's machine cuts from Byron bay with resin tints ($1295) or Surftechs.
Surfed it again in gutless knee to thigh high waves and amazed myself with how far I could get on the waves which I'd normally be bogging rails on if I dared do a turn (slight exaggeration).
Used H2 fronts and Indo controller rears. Looser than the full controllers and still had drive.
Stops me thinking I need a longboard.
