I grew up here and the left you can paddle into fairly easily, still a super gnarly air drop but it's doable. The right has been paddled a handful of times but only when it's smaller and even then i think only 1 or 2 waves were actually made. The wave is in super deep water and breaks on a rock and goes straight into deep water, so i just jacks up too quick to be able to get into it earlier at all and then ledges to hard to make the drop, you end up getting pitched over the falls or air dropping out to the flats where the lip takes you out. That guy did make that wave because the wave doesnt travel anywhere, you can backdoor straight through those. All the photos in every surf magazine that says another lonely central coast slab are of this place just shot from different angles on different days. Irony is, you can't even paddle it, and when it's good there's usually a minimum of 5 tow teams on it.

A ton of spongers ride it pretty often, now, going both left and right.

I'd like to paddle the left this winter. We'll see...

A friend of mine paddles the left all winter on the medium sized days. Rides a 6'8". Doesn't look all that bad. I'll most likely surf it with him, but only if I can time paddling out with him, as well.

Paddling all the way out there alone scares the crap out of me.

You get some of that west swell?

i got a little bit of the swell on wednesday, nothing worth mentioning. although i did check out quite a few spots locally on tues and wed, nothing epic. unfortunately i have been out of commission lately due to a few things, so this swell wasn't good timing for me. things are looking much better now, all i need is the swell and weather to cooperate.

sounds like you scored

What's the story with that place? Big, mushy closeouts and it's CROWDED? Was that a general overview of the surfing out there, or was that the kook/wipeout section?
