I am trying to complete my 3 board quiver and want a board that is unlike the 2 I currently have. Take into account these factors:

I am 5'8" 160
Been surfing 20+ years
I live in South Carolina
Currently have 9' longboard and 6'2" performance quad convertable to tri-fin
The M10 is 5'10 x 2.5" and yes, Tuflite
The Rusy is 5'10 x 2 3/8"

I want my third board to be a serious groveler, one that I can take out instead of the longboard on small, mushy days. I also want it buoyant and easy to paddle. I like the Rusty but I am leaning towards the M10 because it just 'looks' like it is the one I want.

Gracias guys!

I had a Pirana and it was a dog. I tried every possible fin combo and could not make it work. I ended up selling it after about 4 months and went to a Lost SDII and it was everything I was looking for. I also have a three board quiver at Stewart 8'8" Hydro Hull Merrick MBB 7 4" for DOH and the SDII as my groveler. Let me throw out two boards you really need to look at: Lost SDIV quad and the RNF for the small day's. Good luck on your quest...

watch out for that popout m10. tried it once and absolutely hated it. something just felt so so wrong.

if you've tried it and like, please disregard.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Haven't tried either board but I am trying to have 3 distinctly different boards in my quiver. I am a little concerned the Rusty is too similar to my 6'2", that is why I am leaning towards the M10...even though it is a pop-out. What was wrong with the M10 in your opinion?

taped out to 5'8" (maybe 5'8.5")and the width and thickness dims were way off as well, get your calipers and your foam EZ width measuring plastic thing out...

felt too small in my hands. took it out and it had a lot of float, but no weight. no momentum it seemed. pretty much all of the crap people complain about surftechs for... i pretty found them all to be true. nothing even to do with the whole china thing. i know that isn't the best description, but i just hated everything about it. there was not a single redeeming quality TO ME. hated popouts ever since.

sounds to me like you should broaden your scope and check out a 5'5 RNF in XTR. i love XTR. somehow everything that feels bad about popouts feels good about XTR. it just works. i have a frequent flyer II from javier at epoxy pro and just love it. it's small (for me 5'7 155-160)@ 5'9 x 18.75 x 2.125 but it just works.

XTR is everything that i wanted surftech to be. i have the 5.0 which is weakest and the shit's still bulletproof. expand your search and i bet you'll be happier. you gotta see this stuff first hand and pick it up so you can get your head around what it's all about.

exactly what J_p said. Ive never owned one but ive ridden many, they just suck wolf balls. They feel super tiny and thin in hand but when you get them in the water they float like a freaking cruise ship. You paddle into a wave and you can feel how there all hollow or whatever. Then you get into the wave and just like J_P said theres no drive there dead off the bottom, no weight no monmentum, just a pissed off pilot. I always enjoy water time except when Im on a surftech.

You talk too much about shit you know nothing about.

surf sucks, buuuuuuuuuuuuut

they have
carolina girls (good song)
low country boils
shrimp n' grits
manners
warm water

i live in socal, so you know where i stand, but the summer i spent in SC was one of the best. other than southern cal, i've been to more cocks games than anywhere else in the country. one of my best friends is still there and i keep in touch. gotta love south khak. i actually have a SC state flag that flew over the capital building.....

enough SC defending. get a RNF or a RNQ. get it in XTR if you don't want poly. good luck.

Kelly Richards from Perfection Surfboards makes some unreal boards and he is local to your area. Call him up, he'll shape you what you're looking for.

I get 90% of my boards from KR...and picking up a new custom quad any day.

Also, that state flag you have that flew over the capitol? You may want to check the eyelets for scratches because I worked at the capital in college and thsoe flags never flew over the stat house. They flew them over in a jet...and I am serious. I have the same flag and there is not a scratch on the brass eyelets - and I have the certificate that says it flew over the capital,,of course it doesn't say in a plane.

ANyway, we get some waves here.

Go Cocks!

And where's my board KR!?!?!?!

had one of the surftech hogfishes. I didn't like it either- If I had to put a finger on why, it tended to get hung up in anything but lined-up glass. no drive off the bottom, either. And not as fast as the outline would lead you to believe. NOT a good mush board, at least for me.

Not bashing surftech- they might be onto something with the new fused-cell eps foam- but I sold the hogfish pretty quick and my local shaper talked me into a speeddialer-esque quad. MUCH happier with it.
