The biggest issue was that it was too damn long. They said it would last 5ish hours (which is already too long), but they were already at 6 hours when they called it off and had two more things to run........one of them being the freak peak contest which I was looking most forward to. Fvckers.

Chippa's board looks like a frickin' pear. How wide do you think his board is?

Can I buy it after the fact and then get a refund or will the whole thing now be free?

I doubt it'll go free as they want to promote how many purchases of the PPV they got. But, yes, I bought it after the air date and they refunded me today.

Their feed went down for 10 minutes in the middle of the event.

Evidently, a customer of the waterpark accidentally kicked an extension cord that was supplying power to the transmitter (or whatever it's called) on their way to a ride. lol

It wasn't really a big deal to me personally......I'm used to it watching the WSL. But since it was a pay-per-view event, that kind of stuff shouldn't happen. I was more pissed that the freak peak didn't run.

At least they did the right thing by offering a refund.

I paid for it on the discounted early price last year and got refunded. (the replay wasn't up the same day and I had planned to watch it after kids went to sleep, because they couldn't provide the replay the hosting company offered a refund) I didn't pay for it this year at broadcast, but did pay for it eventually and was refunded.

I think stab is just used to an old model of magazine subscriptions where you give away a bunch of free subscriptions just so you can tell advertisers how many paying customers you have to charge advertisers more. It didn't work for magazines. Not sure why they expect it to work here. The $15 price point was to high. $5 would be a sure buy for me on a contest like this that I want to see.

The ladybirds division was real good. Sky Brown is my new favorite female surfer.

Also, Coco Ho and Steph Gilmore went to waco just after the contest. Coco tore her MCL and pulls out of J-bay. Steph replies on coco's instagram post "air's are dumb" That made me laugh.

Tough to say.

I see the merit in it for an air contest. Repeatable sections over and over. A segment of the surfing population will pay for it, but surfing is a fairly small segment to begin with, let alone fracturing that segment with a specialized event seems like it would eventually lead to a pretty small group willing to pay. I can see it working if surf shops around the country bought in and had viewing parties that attracted local surfers.

I don't think it has a future in modern high performance surfing. The pool is just way too boring and predictable.
