Why not just do the entire contest with the freak peak?

Because the freak peak is dumb. It's a wave coming straight at you. That's the first controlled air I've seen on it. It's one of the waves that Jamie O and Cheyne Magnussen threw out when trying to come up with the first air section. Watching the surfline cam shows that the 2 wave set for airs is pretty good. Contest should move real fast this year.

Someday I will pay to surf the Waco Wave Pool. I'll never pay a dime to watch a surf contest there........or any other contest if the WSL gets some dumb ideas. With all the great free surf content out there why would anyone pay to watch a surf contest?

Last year was $9.99 and I bought, but I don't like companies raising rates 50% in less than a year (the first one was in Sept). I get that you have operations costs and insurance and prize money and pool rental, but 50% increase on the consumer? How much will next year be $20?

The whole world saw that air without paying for the webcast. Another reason not to pay for it. I must have seen that air from five different directions via various people's instagram posts.

Meh, it was pretty boring.

There were some amazing airs, but the event was way too long and had stupid sub-contests like the acid drop.

Commentary was good when Dane and Albee were in the booth.....not so much when Bobby and Christian Fletcher were talking.

They didn't even get to the freak peak because they called the thing off early due to a crazy looking storm rolling in.

Can someone post up a video of Curren Caples method? I've seen it in people's stories but not an actual post where I can link it. Best backside straight air ever done on a surfboard?

Not surprising.

Watching guys do airs in a pool is like watching a skate video from 1991 of some guy with 39mm wheels skating a curb.

lol

They couldn't postpone the remainder of the event til the following day?

That's odd.

You would think they would have accounted for the possibility of bad weather.

I'd love to know more about that.[/quote]

I’d imagine the pool is booked with paying customers the next day. Plus celebrity judges won’t stick around.

Sure but you would think event organizers would've planned for that.
