At 5' 10" tall a 54" Bodyboard is WAY too long. Dont do that.

I'm 5' 11" and 42.5" is my go to size. Have a 43.5" as well and I end up having to extend my arms out more to put my hips on the optimal part of the deck for control, especially in more critical waves.

At 5' 10" don't go any larger than 44". Trust me. You want high volume for sure to hold up your mass, but a longer board will just be harder to control and require more adjustments to your body postition while riding.

Bodyboarding often gets no respect because its stupid easy to start, whereas surfing is about the hardest thing in the world to start... but once you get into the real sh*t, Bodyboarding becomes a uniquely dynamic sport that is difficult to progress in.

Have fun!

For under $150 and wanting a board to float 300#, your options are get lucky on a sale or beat down someone with a BZ Big Bradda or something and take it.

The 54" BZ is to break into the softboard/blackball market for standups.

The Herlihy is the same or similar, possibly for dropknee in addition or instead of standup.

5'10' with 28" inseam

I have 74" reach

290 at 25% bodyfat

Long torso short legs (like a gorilla)...

my 42 ends right at my navel

besides I'd like to do some drop knee and stand up once in a great while

Plus the Atlantic is super lame

lucky for 2' clean at my local shore break, dont even use my fins most days

I need to float a massive frame but 54 sounded obnoxiously long

I figure 48 would be ideal but 54 Will b more fun pound for pound

In hawaii poor street kids bodyboard

Only ritch howlies and old guys surfed, we could NEVER afford a "real" board back in the 80ties

LOL....i know all about the respect issue

Once i hit my 1st barrel roll i never cared about surfing again...feels WAY faster and bigger down flat

I run in hard and jump off the sand pull a turn and roll off my board then jump up and run back out... (baywatch style)...lol

I fight in MMA and its phenomenal cardio/polymeric resistance if the waves are pushing at all

Freaking rays and crabs tho...lol

Its RARE that the are big enough to float out in the deep water with my fins and paddle in

Plus im really shark conscious
(got bumped once)

Atlantic is SPOOKY

lots of rivers dumping/ murkey water, fishing piers everywhere

Its EVERYTHING Hawaii grandpas warned us about...

Wish I was back in south Florida 10 years

Spent 8 years in South Africa

Now im stuck in North Carolina!

You like South Florida more than Wrightsville/Wilmington yet the max budget is $150? That does not sound like enjoying South Florida money to me.

Yeah...i liked the clearer water better facilities, environment and climate of south Florida but now i have to surf in NC because i got a better job up here

Might go 200$ on something really nice

Most surfers are ritch kids that pay for brand placement and on on their parents cell phone plan

im a grown man that know what a piece of foams worth...its sure as hell aint + 200$

You have an unusual build, and have to accomodate for it. That’s what the custom market is for. You’ll have to expand your budget a bit more, but it will be worth it.

A piece of well-crafted foam, bodyboard, surfboard or otherwise, is expensive. As is modern life in a first world country.
These are things i’ve come to accept as a somewhat-grown man!

They make the Custom X Bull pretty short at 42.25 and 43.5.

https://www.ebodyboarding.com/produ...ent-tail-bodyboard?variant=6452222230555

Yes, extra length will give you more volume / float, and yes you are east cost with mostly average waves, so going a bit bigger is a good idea. Still, 5' 10" and on anything bigger than a 44" - 45" max and you're going to be moving way back in barreling surf for control and way forward for down the line speed. Would you rather make a 1"-2" adjustment or a 4" - 5" adjustment while riding and transitioning sections..??..

No.6 Goliath and more expensive Goliath Icon are some dope big guy boards and made shorter for good reason.

I cant recommend Science Bodyboards enough as the quality control seems very good. Science Thunder in 44" and 45" would be a good ride.

If you don't have fins on, you are 'Boogie Boarding'.

I would never go out in real shorebreak, or any real surf for that matter, without fins on. And in that case too big of a board would perform horribly.
