Is this what it’s come down to!? A mag every quarter? Damn, dark times. toilet

Maybe I’m old school, but a print magazine is much preferred to a digital subscription. We stare at electronics too much now anyway, and all that light in your eyes when you’re trying to wind down and go to sleep isn’t necessarily a good thing. The paper mag is the most relaxed way to read, and it sucks they seem to be going by the wayside. Transworld just got foreclosed on by their new owners as well. frown

They should send this with every subscription.

I'll be able to slap it, but I'm not going to have time to flip it and rub it down

One of my partners used to own a surf shop. For decades. He kept one of every magazine. He had them stashed up high in cardboard boxes in the shop. We had a roof leak a while back. Some of them got wet so he stuck them down on a table to dry out. It was mostly all 80's. I started perusing them while I was cutting blanks. I started realizing how much I missed actual surfing magazines. One's that weren't all advertisements and a few photos. That's over. Nothing has any substance now. Vapid and temporary. Oh well. I suppose something is gained but something is lost.

Highly preferable.

The way content is absorbed is entirely different.

And in the case of surfing mags you can look at them over and over.

Some guy gave me three large boxes of ER, ING, Breakout, and Surfing World. All from 1960s-1980s that I've been working my way through over the past two years.

One of the cool things is many of the spots are still left unnamed, leaving me wondering where they are...

Not to ruin the mystery, but

IF ANYONE KNOWS THE LOCATION OF THE "ISLAND OF THE MOON" GEORGE GREENOUGH AND FRIENDS VISIT IN THE 1976 OCT/NOV ISSUE OF SURFER PLEASE LET ME KNOW. smile

I have a box of Surfer Mags from the 80s and 90s, courtesy of NeoSponge. Early 90's was some great times. So many shapers, brands, photographers, pros and products that aren't around any more.

From 84 to about 1990 I subscribed to ing and bought an occasional er. Then for a few years I subscribed to both. Still get er. Still have every one of them.

The newer releases of SURFER have actually been pretty good. They have some worthwhile articles and photography.

The localism article in the latest mag was interesting.

I subscribe, and I like them. Definitely moved more into The Surfers Journal kinda vibe over the last couple of years. It's a good move...

The last one I picked up, maybe 4 months ago, appeared emaciated and had maybe 10 photos and a few advertisements.

It was more like a surf pamphlet.

I think you got to remember the articles are aimed at 14 year old white males.

I would read and balk and remember I ain't the target.

There was some pretty decent writing at least through the mid 90s.

I always liked Parmenter's Skeleton Coast article
