They'll go through a collections company that will claim to put a black mark on your credit score. They may or may not actually do it and if you have otherwise great credit it will have almost no immediate impact and no lasting impact.
Was this in Paia? I got one from them and never heard anything again.

I used to live around the corner from a bank parking lot in PB. I've got countless numbers of these fake tickets. Never paid one and never had an issue. If all they have is your license plate, how can they send you to collections? I'm pretty sure that they don't have access to CA's DMV database.
