After numerous surfs with a variety of fin permutations, I've come to the conclusion that this board is a thruster. Thanks all for the input and congrats to Havoc for winning the thread.

Ran a new acquisition through the paces with controllers (the wood-looking futures). Good-great at scooting down the line in a sort of highline/trim mode. Can't make heads or tails of them trying to go on rail/do turns. The board feels like it pivots nervously, and trying to carve like a normal quad, slide/releases and/or goes flat-based. Feels like it needs more fin farther back.

Do you recommend controller fronts + a thuster rear next, get some different quad rears, or throw the Jordys in straight thruster?

The front fins hang back and are pretty big so that is the main reason they go fast but are crap in turns . They might go great in boards with the boxes set for those fins.

If you want super drive and some normal feel true Ames makes a baby twin that looks epic for fat tail boards and big guy fronts

Hey ReTodd,
Picked up a DVS skate and had some success with the DVS fcs quad set and the stretch St-2 set but think I can find a better all around fin. Your recommendations of the TA1 I wish I would have taken that advice, that me be the answer. What size rears would go best 4.0? Smaller - larger? Thanks for your help.

Yup that’s it.... super fun board some waves feel like magic carpet other days fins feel wrong. Mine is a little more stretched out is a 5’10 20 1/2 2 3/4. Walking into the boardroom and feeling the board up and seeing all the crazy concaves and the skate deck I had to have it. Thanks for your help. cheers

These are the black honeycomb Von Sol Stilettos 👠. I prefer the red glass ones. Great all around quad.

Von sol set worked for me. Stretch’s also worked. But Greg helped me dial in a set for 2 different boards and I like them best. I have a few different sizes and gave him measurements and my weight to dial them in. I have enough 3 sets of front fins. 3 sets or rear quads in different sizes and 2 different centers for a thruster.

I did. Board came alive with large Accelerator thruster set up.

I may try quads again if I can find a used set of Reactor fronts though.

- Large Performer rears
- Work on technique - don't surf a quad like a thruster
- Fck it, I'm riding it as a thruster

A truly balanced quad will surf like a thruster only with more giddy up.

So far they feel a little too pivotal and lacking drive in the boards I've tried them in. This is the Large HS fronts and whatever size the HS quad rears are. As a thruster set they felt good in pockety beachies and kinda crappy in lined up waves.

I liked the HS quad rears with some bigger, stiffer fronts like JJF Large or NVS Peregrine.

Maybe it's the inside foil of the fronts, they are so hit or miss for me.

One thing that has always puzzled me sizing quads is their height/base vs the fronts.

Sets seem to be all over the place. 4.5” fronts with 3.75 to 4.25 rears.

If I wanted to pair a set of blackstix quads to go with the muchaco fronts, what would I use on a wide tail stubby hpsb?

Expect confusion and lots and lots of sessions on the wrong setup.
