There is definitely the whole 'portability' side of things, but I've rarely wished I had brought a smaller board...that is what the surfmat and flippers are for.

depends on the forecast and where you're headed. but most likely a stock standard thruster without too much rocker.

I've got a custom that was based off my sharpeye 77 that works amazing in waist high to a few feet OH. 6'2x19.25x2.5 round tail 5 box, slightly wider tail and a few degrees less rocker than the 77.

Sounds like my 6'6" Pyzel Ghost that I consider my do anything travel board. The only thing that would make it more travel worthy in my eyes is if it was Tuflite. I'd give up some ride quality for the ding resistance.

My 6.2 Bonzer Bumble Bee was a good travel board.

Both the shadow and the QK have been good on trips and they go in just about anything. Normally take a mini step up with one of those that covers knee to a well OH, sometimes more.

CC fish would be a good one too

pick one for when its big and good.

sitting on the sidelines equipment-wise is a no-no.

hard to cover all bases.

If I'm going to be surfing world class or otherwise dangerous waves bigger than 1.5x OH I want to be on equipment specifically designed for those conditions.

But since that doesn't answer your question, I'd probably pick between a standard HPSB thruster at 5'9" x 19" x 2 3/8" or a quad fish that incorporates a lot of shortboard features like a Tim Stamps Fuse.
