Surfdog,

2.24 would've indeed been rounded to 2.2 (but still would've been close to 1997-98's 2.26). City of SB got 0.00" from that 1st system (unfortunately), but it generated some very nice south windswell, which along with the WNW, made for very fun peaky surf today. The portion of the system that passed over us was relatively weak and dry air (related to lack of prior rainfall) was able to overwhelm what little available moisture there was. The NAM model picked up on this last night (see yesterdays 6z run attached below). It also looks like the Channel Islands played a role too (or not). There was never that much expected from the 1st system, but every little bit counts (or would've)!

Ya, we had a nice combo swell this morning here in O'side. Looked better in O'side than Swamis, actually. Shorter period peaky south with medium period WNW made for nice head high, with occasional slightly over sets, and calm to offshore winds in the earlier AM. Noticed a nice little fetch of south winds just off the coast of Nor Baja on the ASCAT charts yesterday, and thought we might see something from that. Sure 'nuff, there it was this morning.

Reminded me of certain during storm days at my old stompin' grounds up in the SoBay when we'd surf during storms with those little windows of decent conditions. Had to live there to score it usually, because it didn't last long.

I kinda figured this being the first storm in a while needing to break thru the drier atmosphere SW of So Cal we've had recently, and help break down the door. Most all previous were much more north to NW origins. First one looked a bit timid on the models even back a few days. This next one looks like it will get more mtn uplift going and squeeze out quite a bit more rain in So Cal. We need whatever we can get at this point and hoping for the best it can do.

Surf 'em if you got 'em

Some of the most fun sized and shaped surf in SD last night that I've got and not a soul around. Had some punch too! Peaky with some size.

Glad I turned off the drip system.
Been dumping downtown now for the last 2 hrs. Keep 'em coming El N. Cachuma is only at 14% capacity, it actually looks like a river channel.
Even though we're going to need 2 or 3 more good systems to even get the ground saturated enough to produce runoff we'll take it.

Lots of runoff here in Ventura. The parking lot entrance to my son's school was under about a foot of running water. There's quite a bit of water streaming into the storm drains. Watch out for those bacteria levels over the next week boys & girls. crazy3

Found some offshore goodness this morning before the rain. Now it's pouring. Stocked since I've been getting shut out lately.
