Leash plugs are easy to do but a screw up would be disastrous. They're like 99 cents or so. I'd buy a few and the proper forstner bit and practice on some other old, decrepit board. You'll still be ahead of the game at the end and will have learned how to do these yourself next time.

Or take the wussy approach and use the stick-on leash plug...
