It wasn't the blue angels but damn fun way to spend an afternoon. Here are some shots I took of my ride in an L39 Albatross with the Frys.com aerobatic team. L39 is a great little jet and relatively cheap to own at about $150k.

Still hoping to make an f16 flight happen through some friends.

Wow!!!!

I have heard it said that there are no cheap jets. The maintenance and system upgrdes to maintain worthiness and compliance will eat you alive. Still a man can dream!

L39 is probably the most popular jet for aerobatic teams. Yes, the cost to maintain/fly any jet (or private plane) these days is what is killing the private pilot industry.

Check fuel costs.
http://airnav.com/fuel/local.html

Some numbers for an L39 ownsership:

$ 200,000 Purchase (new)
$ 5,000 LOA & training
$ 12,000 Annual insurance (Liability)
$ 6,000 Annual hangar
$ 13,000 Annual inspection (with ejection seats)
$ 1,000 Minor maintenance (fluids, oil, tires)
$ 5,000 Parts annual average (i.e. engine, valves, etc)
$ 600+ per hour fuel burn

http://www.l39.com/content/faq

You wouldn't believe what little parts cost on jets these days. Example: An LED taillight for a Cessna Citation jet cost about $1,000. The rudder anti-collision light cost about $2,500. It's pretty outrageous.

See here for some outrageously priced upgrades for your private jet.

Damn, guess that's added incentive to not fuckk up and crash the thing.

By way of comparison the F/A-18 costs $56,000,000
The F-35B costs $156,800,000 eek

sh!t I think I just invited vespa back to this thread foreheadslap

Pretty good pics there. Always enjoy going to airshows which there seems to be fewer of these days. Especially enjoy the warbirds. Been lucky enough to fly in multiple b25's and b17's, as well as several WWII fighters. All rides I'll never forget and hope when I have kids they can experience the same.
