Stilletos. The thing has plenty of drive and grovels like a, well like a groveler.
Love that board with those fins!

I have a theory that bigger guys like the stilettos. I'm 5'8" 160#... aldo & nettozen, what's your height/weight?

Re: Shadow as a thruster - Tried it, didn't like it at all. Rails engaged weirdly, and bogged, or didn't drive. Crotch, you're like 185 these days? Might have been the thruster fins I was using, but i just said fvckit and went back to my magic setup. Shadow as a quad ftw.

However, I DID like the shadow with the MRTX Twin/trailer setup. SUPER loose & fun

Was fun with Quad stilletos but then tried with MR's Tfx Twin with trailer and worked way better for me more drive and hold. That's how I ride mine for past 3 years... 5'8" 185lbs

5'11 and 180 on a heavy day(and old and kookish).
I ride the stock 5'11 shadow. It has been my go to smallish wave board for a few years although I have been riding other boards lately as well. Mine is a little long in the tooth after 3 years of heavy use. If I get another will probably go 5'10.

I have tried other fins and setups but so far the stiletto quads are by far the best for me. By the same token they do not work for me in any other board I have? The fronts work ok with a small trailer or smaller rears in longer boards.

Thanks . I figured the quad was the way to go. Twin plus trailer sounds interesting. Is the eps with epoxy the build of choice for all long term Shadow or Manta owners?

My favorite fins on the Shadow were the Von Sol Phantom Quads. Twin fins with shallow keels for trailers. Twinzer canards were pretty crazy as trailers too.

sakuna_kid - I have a PU/PE shadow that is MAGIC - 5'8x19 3/4 x 2.something... It has been retired to the wall, because it's also really pretty. I had a 5'7 Hydroflex II shadow that I sold, because the rails were not the same as the other one, which changed its performance considerably.... The thing was bulletproof tho.

Lots of folks love the EPS version, AFAIK. The glassing shop that Sean uses for his EPS construction does a great job.

As a straight quad, Stilettos worked best. But, my favorites were Aurora twins (random Japanese more swept back 5.1" fins) and a plastic GS trailer, or VS twins with either a single "kicker" trailer
or VS canards as trailers or phantom keels as trailers.
I need a Shadow in my life.

Thanks sixty! I heard a bunch of VS were lost. I wonder where they're being glassed now. I've wanted both the shadow and Manta and may have to get one this year.

I'd consider trying a Shadow, based on how much I love my Manta. Unfortunately I have too many other boards in that range already that work well for me. Keeps pushing the Shadow to the bottom of my wishlist!

If u combined the first six, u'd get the shadow. Keep manta as a gravel boar.

C'mon now, that's not the erBB way! Youre supposed to get as many unique kool aid flavors as you can, not just fruit punch!
Put it this way, knowing what I have (there are a few I havent mentioned also), what would you get next: Shadow, MBLV, or Mitsven Keel fish? Hopefully Ill get some per-diem from a work trip in 2017 and find out!
